Hi Art Lover!
Thanks for signing up! I’ll be delighted to send sneak peeks of paintings to you and let you know about local art shows & exhibits. (Be sure to check your inbox for a confirmation email from me.)
Here’s a peek at my painting “Among The Leaves” which was selected for the show of Indiana Artists at the IMA.
Whether I paint still life or nature, I have noticed that experiences where my senses are fully engaged lead to concepts for my paintings.
In a garden one Fall, I encountered a plant with huge, colorful leaves. The leaves were saturated in a variety of colors and their enormous size was impressive. The colors, the shadows cast by one leaf upon another, and the warmth of the day are all vivid memories.
Though I lean towards realism in the execution of my ideas and concepts, this painting was done in a larger, looser, more expressive manner. With a palette knife and intense colors (and even an old debit card at one point) I piled on the paint and I tackled the canvas.
The act of painting teaches me not only about the characteristics of light and surfaces, but also about the limitations (and possibilities) of paint and canvas.
Hope you enjoy the show!
