My painting at the IMA (Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields)

One of my paintings was selected for inclusion in an exhibition at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. (I’ll reveal the painting after the show opens.)

Indiana Artists, a juried artists’ organization, returns to the Indianapolis Museum of Art this Spring for its 86th annual exhibition. Each year, artist members are invited to enter the annual juried exhibition. Submitted works are reviewed by an outside juror for inclusion in the exhibit.  Accepted works are then juried to receive awards.

The exhibition will consist of a variety of mediums from artists throughout the state of Indiana.

Hoosier Salon Annual Exhibition

Indiana arts lovers and patrons:

You can see some of the best works by Indiana artists, including my own, at the Indiana State Museum now through October 8, 2017.  I’m excited to announce that my painting, Still Life With Summer Fruit, has been selected to be part of the Hoosier Salon’s 93rd Annual Exhibition.

The competition for the show was stiff.  Out of 619 works of art submitted for the show,  about 160 works were selected. Here’s a peek at my painting for the show. Too small to see it well here?  It’s bigger and looks much better in person!! So put the show on your calendar this summer and go see it. (Lots of amazing work by great artists!!!)

Everything in the Hoosier Salon Exhibition can be purchased online at www.hoosiersalon.org or by calling (317)669-6050. Your purchase supports the artist and the Hoosier Salon Patrons Association, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt artist-service organization.

‘Tis the Season

…to begin or add to an art collection.  The 2015 Art Fair season has begun and this is a great time of year to get out and take a look at open air art shows. On a professional level, I like to get out and walk the shows, evaluating which may be a good fit for some of my smaller works. Having recently relocated to Indy from the northeast, all the shows in Indiana are new to me! Continue reading “‘Tis the Season”

Watching Out For The Bees

I love plein air painting (painting outdoors) with my artist buddies.  However, it’s totally different from painting in the comfort (and isolation) of the studio.  Along with the views there’s nature to contend with.  Sometimes it’s small wildlife that gets your attention, or weather conditions to take into consideration.  And sometimes it’s bees that are territorial… or just curious.

One afternoon while out painting, my friend Rose starting twitching irregularly; she had my total attention.  I had two questions:

“What’s the matter with YOU?”  and  “Why are you running over HERE?”

Apparently she was fighting with a bee and I wanted no part of it!  Thankfully, no one was stung.  After much laughter we resumed our painting and continued to enjoy our day outdoors.  Here are some pictures:

Landscapes Challenge

I started the year off with a challenge.  I joined a group of artists online who were doing a painting a day for the month of January.  The goal was to complete 30 paintings in one month.  I didn’t complete all 30; I completed 23 paintings and learned a lot about my process.

Unresolved Issues – “Erasecism”

"Unresolved Issues" by Barbara Peterson

In thinking about this painting for the exhibit entitled “Erasecism”, I concentrated on the dynamics of interaction that come into play in causing schisms and divisions amongst people. I assembled objects and symbols to represent groups of people and the dynamics of the group and individuals.
